FOMWAN, Ekiti State Synergizes With INEC On Campaign Against Election Violence , Credible Election
The Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria- FOMWAN, Ekiti State chapter has begun sensitization of Muslims especially women and the general public on the need to cooperate with government and the electoral body at ensuring a seamless, hitch-free and violence free election ahead of the June 20 governorship election in Ekiti State.
The Muslim organization in partnership with INEC is taking its campaign to religious places, including churches, mosques and prayer grounds and persons living with disabilities in Irepodun/ Ifelodun Local Government area of Ekiti to sensitize the people on their civic responsibilities prior, during and after the election.
FOMWAN noted that INEC has done the needful by collaborating with FOMWAN and several stakeholders and organizations in a bid to reach more electorate especially at the grassroots with its campaign and sensitization messages.
As part of its moves, the Muslim Women group said it will strategically carry out its expected responsibilities and duties with a view to sensitizing the public especially the youths on the danger inherent in hooliganism, thuggery and all forms of violence before, during and after elections .
FOMWAN urged the youths not to allow themselves to be used as political thugs adding that thuggery will only jeopardize the future and lives of the youths.
The group further urged women to warn their wards and children against violence and other social vices.
FOMWAN, Ekiti State expressed confidence that the electoral umpire, INEC will conduct a credible Governorship election in Ekiti State devoid of manipulations on June 20.
The synergy between INEC and the Federation of Muslim Women Associations of Nigeria (FOMWAN) being the largest civil society umbrella organization for Muslim women in Nigeria is in furtherance of its core value is entrenching its focus on community development and advocacy.
Recall that the key aspects of the organization include promotion of girls' education, healthcare, humanitarian services, and financial empowerment.
FOMWAN which has it's national executive council headquartered in Abuja, with branches spanning over 600 local government areas regularly collaborates with state governments and international bodies.
Founded in 1985, FOMWAN operates in all 36 states and the FCT boasting over 80 thousand members and over 500 affiliate groups dedicated to advancing womens empowerment, healthcare, and education.
