EKITI HOSTS SPORTS ADMINISTRATORS COURSE COURTESY OLYMPIC SOLIDARITY COMMITTEE, NAPHER-SD
A 4-day Sports Administrators Course organized by the Nigeria Olympic Committee under the auspices of the Olympics Solidarity Committee in collaboration with the Nigeria Association for Physical Health Education, Recreation, Sports and Dance (NAPHER-SD) and Ekiti State University has been held in Ado Ekiti , the Ekiti State capital.
The highly informative and educative event took place between Monday 15th to Thursday 19th of this month with participants from all South West States of the country in attendance.
The program being the first of its kind in Ekiti State started with opening remarks from the Vice Chancellor of Ekiti University, Professor, Joseph Ayodele represented by his Deputy, Professor Adewole Adebayo who thanked the organizers for bringing the special Sports program to the university with a call on participants to strive towards exploring the knowledge gained to improve and develop Sports at different levels considering it's multi-faceted phases.
Key note speakers and resource persons including an Olympian and Chairman of the Association of Former Female Athletes in Nigeria, Dr. Toyin Aluko,Mr Nweri Emmanuel, Professor Fasan Clement, Dr Akin Amao among others delivered highly impactful papers and presentations both physically and virtually while Mrs Deborah Chidobi was the Project officer.
The resource persons delved into salient and pertinent sports matters with a view to broadening the horizon of participants.
They described sport as a tool for sustainable change through which the needs of the present are met without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
For sports to be a tool towards sustainable change, sports administrators were urged to be deliberate in their actions relating to Sports planning, sport facilities, management of sport resources as well attaching value to natural environment, health and well-being of the everyone.
The program offered participants the privilege to share divergent opinions and personal experiences as Sports stakeholders belonging to different fields including coaching, journalism, administration and students.
The facilitator of the program, Professor Pat Oyeniyi of the Faculty of Education and former chairman of Ekiti State University, Sports Council appealed to the participants to be transparent in their relationships with partners in an bid to sustain an enduring and profitable partnership towards the personal and professional development.
Some of the participants including kungfu coach from Lagos State urged sports administrators to think outside the box and initiate new strategies to foster growth in Sport.
They were enjoined to strive towards self development through regular participation in relevant seminars that could broaden and give new insights on how best to improve sporting activities.
At the end of the seminar, participants who all described it as resourceful expressed delight at the privilege to be part of the event while eagerly looking forward to another edition of such program as each of participant went home with materials , souvenirs and Basic Course certificates for Sports Administrators.
At the grand finale, Ekiti State University Deputy Vice Chancellor who acknowledged the institution's commitment to Sports development reiterated the readiness to host more of such events in future.
