Ekiti State Muslim Media Practitioners Conclude Courtesy Visits To Media Organizations, As Managers Assure of Synergy
On the heels of the controversies that trailed the halting of activities and sitting of the Sharia Arbitration Panel in Ekiti State, Executive members of the Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN) in the State embarked on courtesy and sensitization visits to media organizations within the State.
The visit took MMPN leaders to various Broadcast Media organizations in Ado, Ikere and Ido Ekiti where the Managements were urged to put in more efforts at ensuring accuracy and fact checking while discharging their duties.
Chairman, MMPN, Ekiti State, Alhaji Yusuf Akeusola who addressed the media managers at their various organizations stressed the need for both the broadcast and print media organizations to be cautious in the reportage of news connected with religion especially Islam considering it's sensitivity and implications if not well marshalled.
Akeusola in company of the MMPN Secretary, Alhaji Qozeem Oladapo and few other members who are either radio program presenters or news editors on different media platforms reiterated the preparedness of the Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN) Ekiti State chapter to offer voluntary and selfless service through provision of necessary information about Islam as may be required by the media organizations.
He urged the Media managers not to hesitate to contact members of the MMPN for clarifications on any information before airing such in order not to misinform, confuse or cause any form of rancour in the society.
At one of the radio stations visited, the attention of the Management was drawn to the errors contained in its news report aired in January 2025 when the date of the first Sharia Arbitration Panel was erroneously reported while at all the media organizations, the MMPN educated them on the correct and preferred way to translate "Arbitration Panel" which had hitherto been translated as "ílé ejó Sharia" which means "Sharia Court instead of a more accurate translation like "Igbimo or Apejopo or Ijoko ti o nfi ilana Esin yanju ede aiyede laarin àwon Mùsùlùmí nipinle Èkìti"
The courtesy and sensitization visits took MMPN members to Fresh FM, Ekiti Radio and TV, Voice FM, Progress FM, Midas Radio, Our People's FM all in Ado Ekiti as well as New Cruse FM in Ikere Ekiti and Adamimogo FM in Ido Ekiti.
At all the media organizations visited, the managers and the Management staff warmly welcomed the Muslim Media Practitioners.
The General Manager of Fresh FM, Mr Jide Ogunluyi spoke glowingly about the need for religious tolerance calling for non-interference with activities of people of other faiths.
Mr Ogunluyi acknowledged that compliance with the tenets of religion could entrench a more peaceful and progressive society devoid of mistrust, chaos and corruption.
The media managers also promised to establish a more cordial working relationship with the MMPN in Ekiti State towards initiating and sustaining impactful religious and educational programs for Muslims and the general public.
