SWAN Names Ekiti Governor, Oyebanji As Best Southwest Governor In Sports Development

The National body of the Sports Writers Association of
Nigeria (SWAN) is set to confer SWAN National Merit Award as Best Governor (Sports Development), South-West Nigeria, on the Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji at its forthcoming 60th Diamond Jubilee Celebration-Awards, Compendium Launch and Investiture holding on 31 October 2025 in Abuja.

In a letter to the Governor, signed by the National SWAN President, Isaiah Benjamin and the Secretary-General Amb.Nkena Okonkwo, the body of Sports journalists attributes the honour on the Governor to his administration's remarkable strides in grassroots and elite sports development in the State.

According to SWAN, notable among his administration’s strides include upgrading of the Ekiti State Sports Council to Sports Commission, setting up of Ekiti State Sports Trust Fund Board,  renovation and upgrading of the
Oluyemi Kayode Stadium to global standards,  construction of sports hostel
and multi-purpose indoor sports hall as well as premium attention given to welfare and upkeep of Ekiti  athletes,  monthly stipends to budding athletes , improvement of medical care and logistics for state teams prior and during National Sports events, sustenance of improved welfare of players of both Ekiti United FC and Ekiti Queens FC  campaigning in Nigeria's Elite Football Leagues.

SWAN states that Oyebanji's administration has also shown foresight in creating sustainable career opportunities for athletes and coaches while promoting community
sports initiatives that foster participation, talent discovery, and social
cohesion.

SWAN states that these commitment, intenventions and  initiatives have distinguished Ekti State under the Governor's leadership in line with the quest  to use sports as a tool for youth
empowerment, social integration, and econamic growth.

The SWAN 60th Diamond Jubilee Celebration-Awards, Compendium Launch and Investiture has been scheduled to hold on 31 October, 2025 at the VIP Hall, Padage A, Moshood Abiola Stadium in  Abuja.

The Independent Shari’ah Arbitration Panel in Ekiti State held its inaugural public sitting in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital on Thursday adjudicating on two marriage-related disputes. The panel, presided over by three Kadhis Imam Abdullahi Abdul-Mutolib, Imam Abdulraheem Junaid-Bamigbola, and Dr. Ibrahim Aminullahi-Ogunrinde is aimed at providing arbitration based on Islamic jurisprudence. Ekiti State Muslim Media Practitioners Begin Courtesy Visits To Media Houses, Call For Adherence To Best Ethical Practices, Accurate Reportage of Events Concerning Muslims, Islam

The Chairman, Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN) Ekiti State chapter, Alhaji Yusuf Akeusola and members of the Association have begun courtesy visits to media organizations in the State. The MMPN Executives on Monday began with a visit to Fresh FM and Voice FM  both in Ado Ekiti where they were well received. The General Manager of Fresh FM, Mr Jide Ogunluyi was on ground to recieve the MMPN team while the Accountant recieved them on half of the Voice FM General Manager,  Management and staff. At the two private radio stations, MMPN chairman, Ekiti State highlighted the purpose of the visit with a special focus on the misrepresentation in  some sections of the media on issues related to the Ekiti Sharia Arbitration Panel.
