SWAN, Ekiti State Identifies With Ekiti Born Super Falcons Player, Ijamilusi, Thumbs Up BAO Administration On Sports Strides
The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Ekiti State chapter has congratulated the Football loving people of Ekiti State and commended the State governor, Biodun Oyebanji on the acquisition of an NNL ticket for the State owned football team, Ekiti United FC.
The body of Sports journalists also identified with a Super Falcons player, Ijamilusi Florence Folashade who hailed from Ode Ekiti in Gbonyin Local Government area of Ekiti State for being a shinning light for the State and country as a Sports woman.
The Qozeem Oladapo led SWAN at a press conference with the Technical Advisor on Sports Development, Dr Olusola Osetoba ahead of the forthcoming Osetoba Marathon Race in Emure Ekiti stated that the State governor deserves applause and kudos for placing premium on Sports infrastructure development, athletes welfare, provision of vehicles as well as improved financial impetus for Team Ekiti prior to national Sports competitions.
The Sports journalists noted that the governor's obvious passion for Sports has shown through the upgrade of the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium facilities and laying of Astro turf on the football pitch as well as construction of an ultra modern indoor Sports hall and a Sports hostel all going on simultaneously.
It added that the return of Ekiti United to the Nigeria National Football League (NNL) courtesy of the investment of resources by the State government was laudable as the development would return the excitement and pleasure derived from watching of live competitive league matches among fans while it will also make Ekiti State rank with other States in term of football rating and youth engagement.
In the same vein, the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Ekiti State Chapter felicitated Ekiti State on the remarkable feat achieved by a female football player named Ijamilusi Florence Folashade based in China as a professional footballer.
The body said it was worthy of note that the player hailed from Ode Ekiti in Gbonyin Local Government area of Ekiti State though she lived and schooled in Lagos where her parents reside.
SWAN while expressing hope of establishing a contact with the Super Falcons player who scored one of the goals that gave Nigeria victory at the final of the Women African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2025 in Morocco also expressed optimism that the Sports loving governor of Ekiti State, Mr Biodun Oyebanji will treat the player and her parents to a colorful reception soon and handsomely reward her for bringing pride to the State through football in line with the practice by the Federal Government and other State governments for the various players and officials of the team.
On the Osetoba Marathon Race, the Technical Advisor on Sports Development took time to brief the Sports Writers on the essence of the events and logistics out in place towards ensuring a glamorous and hitch free outing.
The governor's aide said the initiative is being personally funded with a view to uniting the people especially youth of Emure Ekiti where she hailed from and also expose them through Sports.
Dr Osetoba who solicited the support of Sports journalists at ensuring a successful marathon race come September emphasized that it's her personal way of giving back to the society with an assurance that all necessary logistics are being put in place preparatory to the event.
She informed that prizes ranging from #250k to #20k will be given to the top participants from 1st to 16th positions while the first female to finish the race shall go home with #100k and there shall be medals for the top participants and customized souvenirs for all participants.
Dr Olusola Osetoba who said her vision is to sponsor different Sports in each of the various Local Government areas in the State expressed hope that some talents discovered from the forthcoming Osetoba Marathon Race in Emure Local Government will be pencilled down for grooming ahead of future National athletics events.
