Oyebanji Pulls Ekiti United FC Out of Doldrums, Gives State Team National League Lifeline
The teeming football enthusiasts in Ekiti State, especially lovers of the State owned football team, Ekiti United FC can now have a sigh of relief as their beloved team is now back in the celebrated and popular keenly contested Nigeria National Football League(NNL)
This is sequel to the acquisition of a slot for the State football team by the State government for the team to ply its trade as from the next football season in the country's second tier League.
The laudable development has brought succour to the football fans who have missed top rated football matches on the pitch of the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado Ekiti for over a year.
It coincides with the laying of an Astro turf on the stadium soccer pitch, thereby giving it a world class touch, standard and look when compared to stadia in neighboring States.
Recall that Ekiti United FC painfully relegated from the NNL at the end of the 2023/24 season and effort smade by the team to regain promotion from the third tier League (NLO) were in futility.
While in the NLO, the State government through the office of Sports Development headed by Technical Advisor, Dr Olusola Osetoba was able to provide some impetus including the purchase of a coaster bus to ease transportation burden of the male team and the female team within and outside the State.
The latest stride of the Biodun Oyebanji government plus the already thriving Ekiti Queens FC in the Nigeria Women Premier League, Ekiti Sports enthusiasts are now guaranteed of regular access to first class football matches on a world class sports arena in the next few weeks.
This underscores the unequalled passion and commitment of the governor towards engaging and empowering the Sports inclined youths in Ekiti State through their chosen profession as sportsmen and women.
Kudos must go to the silent backbone, the Commissioner for Finance who is undoubtedly the pillar of Sports in the present administration, Mr Akin Oyebode who has been instrumental in no small measures towards putting football in good stead and making Ekiti rank among its peers in Sports generally as a viable tool to curb youth restiveness and vices in Ekiti State while also exploring same to give them hope of a brighter future economically, socially and morally.
